Audio-Link for iPod (Under Contruction)

This is another Audio Auxiliary input for Mazda HU (Head Unit.)
It is similar to MAZ/PC-ALP except it can remote control iPod. You can Start and Stop playing music or skip to next/previous track from buttons on HU or steering wheel.
It also accepts audio input from other devices than iPod, however you have no control of those devices.

Note: If you are using factory installed GPS with automatic LCD open/close capability, you can NOT install this since they use same connector of HU. If your GPS has fixed LCD, you can install this adapter.

A Chinese company Nastonish is manufacturing and a Taiwanese company SpeedLine International Corp. is marketing this at eBay.
I bought it for US$109 plus US$30 shipping charge and US$4 for insurance.

Another version which play MP3 files through USB connector is also available.

Problems

I put the product on my Mazda6 and found it repeats beeps for every one second which makes me hard to enjoy the music.

I contacted SpeedLine and got the following answers.

1. They are going to send me an improved cable which solves the problem.

2. I can solve the problem by soldering the pads appeared on the picture below.

While I wait for new cable, it seemed to be a good try to solder the pads. So I did and beeps are gone.

Now I solved one problem then I found another.
The sound from my devices is in reverse. Left channel sound come from Right speaker while Right channel come from Left speaker.

I modified my cable and the sound come from right speakers now.

Package

The merchandise is in a beautiful paper box, your daughter will love it to store her toy jewels in it. The box is also very tough with it's thick cardboard, and it keeps the contents from damages.

EMS delivery
Looks like very expensive chocolate in it.
The adapter and cable.
From left to right, connecting cable for HU, adapter and connecting cable for iPod.
The case is well made with it's rubber touch finish.
Simplified Chinese must be company name.
Connectors
Flat connector for iPod has audio lines, control lines and charger line.
Other audio devices use stereo mini plug on the right.
Both connectors should not be used simultaneously.

Installation

Installation is quite simple and straight forward.
Connect adapter cable to HU connector in rear, and another cable to iPod.
Consult this page to remove center console.

Connect the cable to the bottom of iPod.
Right white connector goes to HU.
Remove the center console and put the connector to the rear.
The white connector goes to center-left of this picture where blue connector reside. Blue connector is the cable for another adapter (MAZ/PC-ALP) and you will not see in your Mazda6.

Operations

You can control iPod connected from either of HU and steering wheel buttons.

Operation from HU
  PLAY
Push CD button for internal CD.
Push CD button again display shows EX1:1 and iPod is turned on.
　
  STOP
Push FM1 and iPod is turned off. FM2, AM, CD and TAPE/MD buttons will do the same.
　
  CD / iPod selection
Each push of CD button switches between internal CD and iPod.
　
  Next / Previous Track 
Push 6(FF) or bottom of TRACK to skip to next track.
Push 5(REW) or top of TRACK to the start of current track. Another push to Previous track.
　
　
Operation from Steering Wheel Buttons
  PLAY 
Push MODE several times until display shows EX1:1 and iPod is turned on.
　
  STOP 
Push MODE to select other source and iPod is turned off.
　
  Source selection
Each push of MODE switches the source as follows.
　FM1→FM2→AM→TAPE(MD)→CD→EX1:→FM1
　
  Next / Previous Track 
Push V (down arrow) to skip to next track.
Push ^(up arrow) to the start of current track. Another push to Previous track.

Inside of the adapter

It is well made, PCB is professionally designed and high quality parts are used.

Enclosure design is good and rubber finish is excellent.
By removing four screws at the corner, case can be open. There is no positive locks to keep the case in position.
The number of controller chip is erased, an old trick.
High quality PCB.
Production year, date is printed at left bottom.
