Overview

MAZ/PC-ALP (Adapter) is considered not working with Mazda6 HU(head-unit) by now. The manufacturer and shops clearly says it does not work on Mazda6. However a member of Club Atenza TOMILY found the way to hook it up to Mazda6.
The result is great, compared with FM modulators it gives more tight and rich low frequency and clear high frequency.

There are two points to be considered.

1.Un-balanced signal and balanced input

While HU has a set of Balanced audio inputs for CD changer, MAZ/PC-ALP(the Adapter) has un-balanced output. Each balanced input has three wires which are Signal(+), Signal(-) and Signal Ground. Each un-balanced output has only two wires which are Signal and Signal Ground.
To convert balanced input to un-balanced input, you must connect Signal(-) to Signal Ground and you can use Signal(+) as Signal input.

There is another report that you can change HU's input into un-balanced by changing jumpers in HU. We do not discuss here about this method since cable modification is much safer.

2.Newer HU does not supply Bus signal (L716)

NOTE:
NOT ALL HU REQUIRES THE MODIFICATION, CHECK YOUR HU BEFORE YOU OPEN IT!
OPENING THE HU VOIDS WARRANTY.

We, Club Atenza members found that the HUs shipped with Atenza on or after Jan.2004 in Japan do not recognize the Adapter. A member SIGURE found that new HUs rack the control signal called Bus+ on the connector.

Operations

Test
After the installation, connect external audio source such as iPod to the input connector. Set the ignition key to Acc position and turn on your HU.
Press CD button once and check if the CD plays normal. Then press CD button once again to switch to AUX input. Display must change to EX1: 1 000 from CD. AUX is now ready. Play your iPod or whatever you got and enjoy high quality sound.

            This is good

If EX1: 1 000 does not appear on the display and CD keeps playing, HU did not recognize the Adapter and your may need the modification described above.

Switch back to other sources
Press CD button three times to return to CD play, or press other button such as FM1 once to switch to the radio.

The Adapter and Cables

The Adapter Cable comes with the Adapter Alpine's Input Cable
RX-8 2004 version (It seems all Mazda versions are same)

PIE says Mazda6 version is coming 'soon' (it reminds me Sylfex :-) )

Blue connector to HU and white one to the Adapter. Alpine's part number KCM-122B(RCA) or KCM-123B(Mini-Plug) are available at car audio shops.
